Grapes: 100% Merlot
Character: This is a complex, elegant and delicious dark-fruited wine with hints of sun-ripened blackberries and a slightly spicy roasted nuance of the oak barrels, it has a slightly more than medium-bodied and silky textured body with hints of red fruit, great intensity, a little spice and a long aftertaste that is held together nicely by a well-balanced astringency.
Goes well with: Excellent with meat dishes; veal, lamb and cow.
About the wine: The Merlot grapes were hand-picked starting from September 11 from Casalferro vineyard, on September 13 from Sodacci vineyard and, finally, on September 18 from Pecchierino vineyard. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 24°C-27°C, with 14-18 days of skin contact. The ageing occurred for 21 months in tonneaux and barriques of which 30% are new oak and the remaining 70% are of second and third passage.
