Cult Winemakers in California
Burt Williams and Ed Selyem started making Pinot Noir in Sonoma in 1981, initially for their own enjoyment and use at home in the garage. Gradually, however, it grew into a winery with both cult status and international renown! Burt and Ed set a new standard for American Pinot Noir and elevated Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley to the level of the best regions in the world. Williams Selyem now produces more than twenty different Pinot Noirs with fruit sourced through a handshake from around Sonoma. There is no doubt that the success of Williams Selyem comes from these growers and Burt and Ed’s ability to sniff out the right grapes.
