With Ca'Marcanda, Angelo Gaja has realized one of his dreams, to produce world-class wines along the Tuscan coast. Angelo had long planned to settle in Bolgheri to produce Bordeaux-inspired wines in one of Italy's most exciting regions. With his usual diligence, Angelo searched high and low for the perfect location. When he found it, a sleepy olive grove in Bolgheri, there was only one problem: the owners didn't want to sell.

Ca'Marcanda is Piedmontese for “the place of eternal negotiations” and refers to the endless discussions Angelo had with the previous owners before they finally decided to sell. Ca'Marcanda is located next to the sea along the Tuscan coast, just west of Siena. The coastal location has a significant impact on the climate, creating several unique microclimates that give the wines that little extra. Here, the days are warm and the evenings cool, thanks to the cooling sea breeze. The soil consists mainly of calcareous clay soils, making Bolgheri an ideal place for the French grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah.
