A Family Legacy in Alsace
The Hugel family has been making wine in the idyllic village of Riquewihr since 1639, making Hugel one of the oldest family-owned wineries in the world. Today, the 12th generation of Hugel is at the helm and the 13th is eagerly waiting to take over. The family controls 25 hectares of land and buys in grapes
from a further 100 hectares. Hugel was the first producer to experiment with and create the sweet wines “vendange tardive” and “selection de grains nobles”. These rarities can be aged for decades and only gain complexity and structure with ageing. But Hugel is perhaps best known for its elegant, fresh and mineral-driven dry wines
