Heinrich

AUSTRIA

Genuine, Pure, and Unadulterated

Gernot and Heike Heinrich have had a clear goal of creating high-quality red wines since they took over the Heinrich family’s small-scale wine production in 1985. The Heinrich family currently cultivates their grapes on 100 hectares in Gols, Burgenland, using biodynamic principles. Biodynamic farming is close to the family’s heart, and they have been involved in founding Respekt, a certification body for Austrian winegrowers. Gernot’s firm belief is that a fantastic wine should always echo the terroir from which it originates. This is best achieved by having the vines in an environment with great biodiversity, where everything works in symbiosis and in nature’s interplay. This free approach with minimal intervention in the surroundings of the vineyards has led Gernot to fully focus on the terroir of red wines while deepening his love for the natural, unspoiled expression of various traditional Austrian white wines. As a result, Gernot has received the Falstaff Winemaker of the Year award.
