History of Madeira

Cossart Gordon is recognized as one of Madeira’s oldest producers. Founded in 1745 by two Scottish men, Francis Newton and William Gordon, who were later joined by William Cossart in 1808. The producer continues to honor old traditions and produces very high-quality wines. Francisco Albuquerque, the current winemaker, has consistently won prestigious competitions such as Wine and Spirits’ “Wine Maker of the Year for Fortified Wines.” The style leans towards the drier side with exquisite character and finesse.
