Precision, Elegance, and Liveliness
In the mid-1970s, Leo Alzinger Sr. inherited the family winery, which had until then sold the harvested grapes to Dinstlgut, a cooperative in Loiben. In 1983, Leo Sr. decided to take on the challenge of producing wine under his own label and roof, an ambitious undertaking that allowed him to develop his own style and identity; to this day, nothing has fundamentally changed. The wines have a precision, elegance, and liveliness that few can compete with, and this has been Alzinger’s hallmark since the beginning. A success factor for Leo Sr. was the assets in the very best vineyards, vines growing on the slopes in the eastern parts of Wachau, between Dürnstein and Rothenhof. They own vines in Hochstrasser, Steinertal, Hollerin, Mühlpoint, and Loibenberg. Although Leo Sr. has officially handed over the winery and vineyards to his son Leo and his wife Katharina, Leo Sr. is still deeply involved in the work in the vineyards and also helps with the maintenance of Wachau’s distinctive stone walls.
